But, there are tips and techniques to avoid this and sound comfortable and confident while we are speaking. How to approach in an open way?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When we are asked to communicate, we see that situation as threatening. That is when we start fumbling and end goofing-up. Rather, we should approach communication in an open way. We should see it as an opportunity to share our ideas and beliefs. This is when something that we dread, becomes something that we embrace.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_How_to_understand_your_audience\"><\/span><strong>2. How to understand your audience?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Don\u2019t get all excited and go on blabbering about what you need\/want to tell your audience. Instead, give a thought to <a href=\"http:\/\/scoreindia.org\/blog\/cheat-sheet-different-audiences-different-tones\/\">what your audience needs\/wants to hear<\/a> from you. While doing that, ask yourself \u2018Who they are\u2019. For this, you need to analyse three things:<br \/>\n<strong>Knowledge:<\/strong> What they already know and how you can enhance their knowledge.<br \/>\n<strong>Expectations:<\/strong> What do they expect from you? Fill them in with the expectation they have from you.<br \/>\n<strong>Attitude:<\/strong> Know what your audience is thinking about your content. Whether they are in favor or against it or agnostic about it?<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_In_what_context_to_speak_to_your_audience\"><\/span><strong>3. In what context to speak to your audience?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Context comes in different varieties:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> What time of the day you are communicating?<br \/>\n<strong>Emotions:<\/strong> Communicate your message through feeling. Add emotion along with your information.<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong> Think about the environment and the way in which the room has been set-up and communicate.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_In_what_ways_to_structure_the_messages\"><\/span><strong>4. In what ways to structure the messages?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A study says that people recall structured information 40% better. So structure your messages. There are three ways in which you can do that:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Past-Present-Future Structure:<\/strong> This structure helps navigate the audience from one place to another and provides a map to them.<br \/>\n<strong>Problem-Solution-Benefit Structure:<\/strong> This is the most persuasive structure as it answers the \u201cWhat\u2019s in it for me\u201d to the audience.<br \/>\n<strong>What-So what-Now what Structure:<\/strong> It is very important to never lose the audience.
