Networking- Building connections in the industry, whether it is in person or online is a very important part of the job. It helps build a better reputation, increases visibility, provides you a stronger support network, and improves a firm’s business growth. For beginners, it is all the more crucial because networking opens up new employment opportunities, gives you mentors, and you gain experiences. Now, PR as a profession, gives one countless chances to network- be it attending conferences, working with people across different sectors, or being the part of a diverse organization- you can do it all!

2. Storytelling- It is a popular saying, “Without a storyline, there is no PR.” Today, public relations experts are great professional storytellers. They promote the positioning of a person, brand, product or service, a large business, or that of a small business. In the emotion-cantered globe, marketing stories become a greater part of PR strategies. Students venturing into PR can exercise their storytelling abilities to engage and captivate the audience.

3. Innovation & Creativity- Creativity in PR is essential and a key priority not just to gather the attention of the public but the clients as well. PR Professionals use creativity in their communication strategies, key message delivery, and achieving communication objectives. They also use creativity as a strategic and tactical tool to elevate their work. Numerous public relations initiatives, from those of Bernays like “Torches of Freedom” and “Hearty Breakfast” to more modern ones like “Ice Bucket Challenge,” “Black Lives Matter,” “Share a Coke,” etc., act as constant confirmation of this. It simply serves to confirm that creativity was and remains one of the ideal qualities a public relations professional learns over time.

4. Skilled Communicator- Public Relations involves one to communicate a lot, whether it is face-to-face conversations, emails, chat messages, videoconferencing, phone calls, etc., one must be an excellent communicator to correctly convey information in the workplace. In the same process, individuals become more efficient and articulate with their words, and in-turn can voice their concerns, ask questions, and contribute their ideas efficiently as they grow into the field.

5. Learning never stops- As a PR professional, you work in multiple industries almost every day. No day is the same for you and because of that you keep learning newer things with each moment. One day you are a content strategist, the next you are handling a crisis. Your role requires you to look after social media, marketing, video, audio, image editing, copywriting, web design, analytics, events, and the list goes on. In short, the process of learning never stops for you.

Related article – 10 Reasons Why You Should Study Public Relations

In the end, Public Relations as a career is an exciting one and has a plethora of opportunities to offer the newer generations.
