There is no challenging the power of communications in any aspect of our lives. We all know, that whether it is personal or professional relationships, communication and engagement is very important for people to function efficiently. Which is the role that effective internal communications plays for brands.
In organisations ‘Internal Communications’ is a function that is widely known but may or may not be well understood with the due significance attached to it.
There are several benefits of having an effective internal communications system and these are all connected in some manner. I am going to list down top five that I feel are the most important:
Having an effective internal communications approach brings transparency amongst the employees helping them understand the bigger picture better. With knowledge of the bigger picture employees understand where exactly they fit in and this results in greater motivation towards their work. Transparency is the hallmark of Public Relations.
- Smooth co-ordination:
Internal communications is vital for avoiding conflicts and having smooth co-ordination among the employees in a company. People understand the value system of the company better which reduces potential clashes between the work force and helps in having a quicker turnaround time. A well-oiled machine is always the faster machine.
- Increased productivity:
Having a well-structured communications system leads to leaders understanding their teams and their needs better. They are further able to address those needs which subsequently results in increased productivity and better outcomes. Intranet systems play an important role in bringing in structure.
- Higher employee retention:
Communications help employees understand the company and people better. If they are in sync with the management and their team leads, then there is a higher chance for them staying longer in the organisation and contributing to its growth. A communicating organisation is a happy one.
- Sense of ownership towards the company:
It is very important for employees to have a sense of ownership towards the company they work for. The feeling of ownership leads to employees taking up greater responsibility. This increased sense of responsibility helps better in innovation and newer ideas, improving the overall quality of work.
These are only few of the many aspects that I have highlighted. We have also discussed its evolution in this post. There remain other small and big benefits of having an effective communications system, upon which a company’s growth rests on. Internal communications is not an option within organisations.
