It goes without saying that at present times ‘information travels faster than light’. That said, with the help of Public Relations, stories and narratives can be created which helps shape opinions among masses. This, however, was unknown to me until I began my undergraduate studies.
We began with the very basics of the course – the definitions, firms involved in creating the campaigns, and what the end product looked like. While all of this appeared interesting, with the blink of an eye, we concluded our Bachelor’s course and there were many questions left unanswered. Fast forward a few months, I was in the midst of a professional environment, working as a content writer for a sports organization.
I would occasionally follow campaigns, however, the social media marketing team in the office, all of whom were seated behind my group, were the ones who reignited that spark by establishing a dialogue in this field. Also, when you are in the news writing industry, one cannot forget the 5W’s and 1H (What, when, why, where, who and how) and a compelling lead to begin the story.
Often times I’d wonder that these 5 W’s and 1 H are crucial in the PR field too. After all, when you are creating a story/campaign, it is pertinent to ask questions. As of today, these “questions” have only grown, some of which are – How and why certain campaigns work and why some do not, how PR is implemented in Sports, Politics, Film and Entertainment Industry, Healthcare among others, how do you rightly pitch journalists and not successfully make it to their SPAM folder? In addition to this, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is evolving at unprecedented rates, how can PR be coupled with AI and further help the industry grow leaps and bounds?
While there is room for lots of improvement both personally and professionally, I believe that this union with SCoRe will put me within touching distance with how I envision myself, come April 2025 – a solid, well-rounded professional, with the required tools under my belt to work in a prestigious PR firm.
