It is not uncommon for professionals from non-communications background to enter the world of Public Relations after a certain number of years in their careers. In a few cases we have also seen very senior professionals like journalists with experience ranging from 15-30 years make a voyage into PR.
Noticing this common pattern, we at SCoRe, as an ogranisation dedicated to the development of strategic communications, felt the need for a unique programme. This programme will help new recruits put their best foot forward as they step into a new career in PR.
SCoRe is offering the Accelerator for Reputation and Communications (ARC) to address the absence of an orientation programme in Public Relations. Since the entry of professionals into the business with no prior experience in Public Relations, is becoming common it was only necessary for us to launch ARC. ARC is a one-month full time immersion programme into the field of Public Relations and Corporate Communications. The programme will ensure that its attendees understand the basic fundamentals of working within communications. They will also be acquainted with the structures and functions of the Public Relations business with the help of senior practicing professionals. The four-week full-time intensive training programme will aim to give the trainees an overview of important communications functions like campaign planning, media landscape, client servicing, digital marketing, principles of marketing and others.
While currently the focus is on companies nominating employees, in the future, we see ARC being taken up by professionals on their own. Especially those on sabbaticals wanting to transition to PR and corporate communications. This will be extremely useful to those who want to shift from advertising, journalism, sales, marketing, digital, research and allied fields. ARC will be a great foundation builder for professionals who do know a few aspects of PR but need quality training in the beginning to make a mark for themselves. By launching this series, we hope to demonstrate that a formal training, if given in a right manner can be much more effective than ‘learning on the job’ which is a common practice seen in our profession.
