Choosing Public Relations as a career wasn’t a direct or obvious path for me. I don’t come from a traditional media or communication background; in fact, I was pursuing Company Secretaryship earlier. That journey gave me a strong foundation in corporate law, governance, and structure. But somewhere along the way, I realized I was more drawn to the communication aspect of businesses, the way brands connect with people, how narratives are built, and how reputation can be managed with a single message.
This curiosity slowly nudged me toward digital marketing, and I began working in the space of social media management. That’s when things started to click. Managing content, crafting captions, understanding what works with audiences, and seeing the behind-the-scenes of brand communication felt exciting and purposeful. It wasn’t just about selling something but it was about storytelling, connection, and timing.
It was through this digital experience that I was introduced to the world of Public Relations. I began reading more about PR campaigns, crisis management case studies, and how brands handle media relationships. The more I learned, the more I saw how closely PR relates to both my past education and current work. My background in CS taught me structure, compliance, and the importance of reputation, while digital marketing showed me the power of messaging and audience behaviour. PR sits at the intersection of both and that realization inspired me to pursue it.
