Women’s Day Special
Comms News and Reputation Today have announced the second edition of , India Impact Communication Conclave 2022 Women’s Day Special (IICC 2022). This event will be held on 3rd March, 2022, from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. IICC 2022 will be a platform for an active dialogue and inclusive interaction on “Gender Equality Today for a Better Tomorrow” through five different panels on issues ranging from Gender Equality, Women Leadership, Mental Health & Wellness to Breaking the Bias & Community over Competition.
This conclave aims to draw attention to various issues faced by women. At the core of which lies in Women Leadership. Under-representation of women at work in leadership roles, is one of the pressing issues in modern times. The traditional, stereotypical distribution roles of Man being the breadwinner and women being the caregiver still limits many women from taking up top positions at work. This is also a reason for microaggressions, sexism and bias at workplaces. The constant ‘balancing act’ of managing work and family life is taxing upon women, unable to hold higher positions than their male counterparts, placing them on an uneven playing field.
Additionally, the problem of workplace-harassment, deters women from taking leadership roles altogether. Although there are regulations and dedicated committees at offices that help to tackle the issue, this hasn’t provided a solution, entirely. Stereotypical notions of male leadership evidently drive more societal support than that towards women. It creates a challenge for women to form beneficial alliances, strategic relationships, voice their choices, beliefs and opinions. This is incredibly strenuous and takes a toll on women’s health and wellness. They tend to even suffer from issues like the “Imposter Syndrome”, making a woman feel under confident and unable to make accomplishments.
Stats from a survey by the Pew Research Center, displaying % of people answering ‘YES’:
a) Many businesses are not ready to hire women for top executive positions – 67%
b) Family responsibilities don’t leave time for running a major corporation – 58%
c) Women don’t have access to the same kinds of connections as men – 47%
d) Women aren’t tough enough for business – 31%
e) Women don’t make as good managers as men – 21%
According to the Egon Zehnder Global Diversity Report 2020,only 17% of women hold top positions in corporate India, since the past decade. More women need to be encouraged to pursue leadership roles, by creating equal opportunities, flexible working conditions, training and sensitizing work culture. To create further support for women, corporations can take up initiatives to promote leadership and community mobilization at grass root levels.
The second group of Corporate Communication heads to address us comprises:
Amandeep Arora– MobiKwik; Bhawna Sharma Ningthoujam – Western Digital; Gayathri Pradeep – BIAL; Smita Basu Roy – Godrej & Boyce; Sunaina Jairath – CRED. The panel will be moderated by Sarika Chavan – Weber Shadwick.
Through this conclave, women leaders in their respective sectors are coming together to tackle the problem of under-representation of women at workplaces and also pave the way for the next line of leaders.
