ToggleOn the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022, a meaningful initiative brought together women leaders in communication. The India Impact Communication Conclave (IICC) – a Women’s Day Special Edition – was hosted virtually by Comms News and Reputation Today on Thursday, 3rd March 2022. The conclave offered a platform for real conversations on gender equality, leadership, inclusion, mental health, and breaking unconscious bias in the workplace.
The India Impact Communication Conclave 2022 – Women’s Day Special – was organized virtually by Comms News and Reputation Today. The aim of the event was to create a space for dialogue and action around gender equality in the corporate and communication sectors.
The initiative aimed to spark meaningful discussions among leading women in the industry. Furthermore, it provided a stage for exchange of ideas, experiences, and challenges faced by women professionals. The objective was not only to celebrate women but also to initiate honest conversations about real issues like leadership gaps, representation, unconscious bias, and wellness.
The first panel featured Dhruti Kapadia (INGKA), Dimple Kapur (Pernod Ricard), Poonam Thakur (Prosus Ventures), and Shreya Sharma (Sharechat). The session was moderated by Shreya Krishnan from AON India.
The discussion focused on gender equality as a universal human issue, not just a women’s issue. According to the panelists, the first step toward achieving equality is acknowledging individual choice and promoting fairness.
Questions such as “Is there pay parity?” and “Is there an unconscious bias when women speak?” were openly addressed. The answers were clear: no, and yes. Moreover, it was emphasized that equality must be intentional, and workplaces need to embed it within their values and conduct.
The second panel addressed women in leadership roles, featuring Amandeep Arora (MobiKwik), Bhawna Sharma (Western Digital), Gayathri Pradeep (BIAL), Smita Basu Roy (Godrej & Boyce), and Sunaina Jarath (CRED). This panel was moderated by Sarika Chavan from Weber Shandwick.
Panelists highlighted the importance of self-belief and encouraging more women to grow into leadership roles. Many women tend to hold themselves back, often due to internalized social expectations.
The discussion also touched upon the guilt women sometimes feel when prioritizing their careers. Moreover, the panelists emphasized that one should not apologize for ambition. In today’s fast-evolving corporate world, upskilling and taking independent decisions are vital for long-term relevance and personal success.
Mental health took center stage in the third panel, which included Kasturi Paladhi (Xiaomi India), Michelle Dsouza (Johnson & Johnson), Nivedeeta Moirangthem (IKEA India), and Srabani Sen (Scripbox). The discussion was moderated by Priti Setia of Adfactors PR.
The panelists focused on the impact of toxic work culture on mental health, and how leadership must be trained to recognize early signs of distress. Sudden changes in behavior, consistent distractions, or mood shifts were shared as key indicators that should not be ignored.
Furthermore, they offered simple yet effective tips: eat right, pick up a hobby, be kind to yourself, and spread positivity. Being empathetic, listening actively, and reading between the lines were all highlighted as essential practices in any workplace striving to promote mental wellness.
The fourth panel brought focus to the topic of unconscious bias with Bhavna Imran (Corteva Agriscience), Mansi Tiwari (Marico Ltd.), Megha Chaturvedi (Rio Tinto), Mitul Lall (Josh Talks), and Puja Trehan (Sugarbox Networks), moderated by Ameeta Vadhera (Promise Foundation).
The panel explored the deep-rooted biases in decision-making processes. They emphasized that acceptance, inclusion, and visibility are necessary to eliminate such bias. Moreover, the discussion stressed the importance of leading by example, and of mentoring emerging female talent.
In the concluding panel, the theme of “community over competition” was explored by Anuradha Roy Chowdhury (DP World), Bishnupriya Narayan (Dream Sports), Madhavi Behl (First Source), Priya Zutshi (Green Cell Mobility), and Flovie Martin (Marsh McLennan Global Services), moderated by Sharmistha Ghosh (Avian WE).
The takeaway was clear: inclusive growth is not optional—it is essential. Accelerating collaboration requires a supportive infrastructure, smart use of technology, and strategic employee engagement.
