Grace D’Silva, student of Summer Class of 2025 writes about the challenges for a Public Relations PG Course. From being one of the teachers’ favourite students to being elected as the head girl she knew success doesn’t come easy. After recently switching schools, made me question if it was solely my hard work and persistence every time. My insights said it wasn’t. Beyond my leadership qualities, multifaceted talents, and empathetic nature, the one word that summed up my success in attracting public love was PR. Subconsciously, I made others feel heard and was there when they needed help. The idea of “showing up” was very important to me. I built a reputation as the go-to person for many classmates, which brought me various opportunities and friends. However, I couldn’t understand which college to choose for a Public Relations PG Course.
It wasn’t until I started working at a mid-size PR firm that I realised it wasn’t just the idea of being neutral and accepting others that attracted them to me, but who I was and what I did. Even when I made mistakes, making amends correctly saved my friendships. I have tried my hand at copywriting and music instructing—I am a Trinity-qualified electronic keyboard player in higher grades—and even started an online crochet business in the last five years. However, none of these were comprehensive enough to challenge me or give me a run for my money. Although, I looked up colleges in Mumbai, something was amiss. Almost all the colleges gave placements, internships, had good faculty, but public relations PG course was not this simple.

PR was simply one of the many subjects I studied while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia, Mass Communications. And it stuck. I believe “marination” is key in the industry. The better the marination (whether with clients, journalists, ideas, brands, or within the industry network), the more scrumptious success tastes. Not intimidated by the number of tasks I received, I was challenged and I loved working in a PR firm. It was only when I started working in a mid-sized PR firm I realised I have to learn so many things. There are so many PR related subjects that I am unaware about that only I will be able to learn if I opt for a Public Relations PG Course.
PR is about is networking, and building connections with the stakeholders, journalists, clients as well as your teammates. PR is also about being a brand custodian of the brands and upholding their reputation at all cost. Be it crisis management or CSR activity or being a publicist, public relations skills come handy in our day to day life. Furthermore to ace it, is not a rocket science, but an art that I am willing to take up and incorporate in my life.
PR, as an industry, marinated me and called me to taste it. I secured a pre-placement employment offer at college in a PR firm. Many unforeseen tasks challenged me and I can say now there’s no looking back now! At SCoRE, I aim to gain the most from every individual I come across. I want to chisel myself into a reliable and go-to friend for brands. Just as I was back in my school years!
