Why I chose to study Public Relations: Blog by Komal Iyer
Have you ever wondered how storytelling can shape perceptions and change how people think? As a media enthusiast with a background in English Literature, I have always believed storytelling is key to understanding individuals and society. From a young age, I was captivated by the simple magic of storybooks, be it curious retellings of the great Epics or tales of the modern world. Through these stories, I developed an appreciation for narratives and their ability to shape the worldview of those who hear them.
As my fascination with words grew, so did my understanding of how effective communication and creative strategies can turn stories into powerful tools for change. Exploring different fields of media and communication, I realized that Public Relations (PR) perfectly blends strategy, creativity, and authentic connections, the reason why I chose to study public relations. In PR, I found an intersection between storytelling and strategy – precisely the requirements for engaging with people and building meaningful relationships.

The power to mould perceptions is what truly fascinates me about PR. From managing crises to building brand reputation or crafting impactful campaigns, PR professionals work to influence public opinion and maintain trust. I have always admired how brands and individuals carefully curate their public image, and I wanted to be on the other side—strategising, crafting narratives, and ensuring effective communication.
My interest in journalism and media made me realise the importance of persuasive and ethical storytelling. Unlike traditional advertising, PR is about building genuine relationships with audiences. This is the two-way communication is what I deeply connect with. I believe in active engagement and practical methods of learning, both of which are part of the School of Communication and Reputation (SCoRe), making it the best course of path for my dreams in this dynamic field.
Why I chose to study Public Relations is also because I am excited to learn the fundamentals of PR and corporate communication from industry experts. My primary goal is to master the art of strategic communication—understanding how to create compelling campaigns, manage media relations, and build trust for brands.
What particularly interests me in corporate PR, where I can help businesses strengthen their public image and credibility. Whether handling media crises, designing communication strategies, or engaging stakeholders, I want to be at the forefront of impactful storytelling in the corporate world.
Public Relations is more than crafting and maintaining perceptions; it is about creating meaningful connections and driving impactful narratives. With this diploma, I am taking my first step toward a PR career. A career that constantly challenges me to think critically, communicate effectively, and innovate mindfully. I am eager to learn, grow, and contribute to the ever-evolving PR and corporate communication world.

What truly sets the School of Communication and Reputation (SCoRe) apart is its industry-first approach to Public Relations education. Unlike traditional academic programs that focus heavily on theory, SCoRe functions in the real-world workings. Moreover, the curriculum is designed based on the PR and communications industry. It is the only institute in India founded by public relations professionals. Because the institute is backed by some of the most respected names in the industry, this makes the learning experience highly relevant and practical. This is in sync with the ever-evolving needs of the profession.
One of the biggest reasons I chose SCoRe is the opportunity to learn directly from those who have shaped the Indian PR landscape. From CEOs of leading PR firms to senior communication strategists and brand reputation experts, the institute brings in key opinion leaders to mentor and train students. This exposure to real-time industry insights ensures that we don’t just study case studies—we live them. Every session is designed to mirror what actually happens in the PR world. It prepares us to hit the ground running once we graduate.
SCoRe also places a strong emphasis on hands-on learning. Whether it’s creating a PR campaign from scratch, handling a simulated crisis communication exercise, or pitching stories to journalists, every assignment is a practical experience that builds both confidence and competence. This is a major advantage for someone like me who believes in learning by doing. The internships and live projects offered during the course allow students to interact with clients. It helps them understand stakeholder dynamics, and apply communication strategies in real business situations. It’s this kind of immersive learning that makes the program not just educational but transformational.
Another standout feature is the small batch size. At SCoRe, classes are intimate, which means every student receives personalized guidance and mentorship. There’s room for discussion, debate, and a lot of individual attention. This is rare to find in most higher education institutes. This environment, furthermore, encourages curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, all of which are crucial in the world of Public Relations.
Finally, the strong alumni network and placement support offered by SCoRe is an added assurance. Graduates from the institute get placements with top PR consultancies and leading brands across the country. The network of SCoRe alumni and faculty acts as a powerful community. It supports each other, opens doors to opportunities, and constantly shares insights about the industry.
Moreover in a field as dynamic as PR, where staying current and updated is the key. Being trained by experts who are active in the industry, further makes all the difference. SCoRe doesn’t just teach Public Relations—it shapes future communication leaders. For anyone serious about building a career in PR and corporate communications, there’s no better place to begin this journey.
