When you take anything other than science, the society does not accept it. But somehow you do manage to take some other stream. In my case commerce. Then automatically you either have to do chartered Accountants or Company Secretary.
Accounts and I had somewhat of a love hate relationship. I never hated it but I didn’t love it either. And since I did fairly well in accounts my mum presumed I’ll be a chartered accountant.
It wasn’t easy the leap from accounts to public relations. I broke expectations. And I felt horrible. But I wanted to be a public relations manager. When I studied accounts it was all text books. There was a format and we would solve in that format. It was pretty easy. But then public relations isn’t that easy. We have to keep up to date with the current affairs which I’m not good at. Reading newspapers everyday was even worse. It was a complete change of my schedule. Where once I would just solve questions now I had to do research. Within the first week, I lost hope. Maybe, I did a mistake. Maybe, my mum was right. I should have done Chartered accountants. Did I do a mistake? The doubts came up.
But then my mum had always told. Nothing will be served on a silver platter. You have to achieve it. Even though my parents were hesitant about public relations. They believed in me and let me take up public relations. At that time I realised it was not going to be easy. And that I had to put in my efforts. The leap from accounts was not easy. It still is difficult but I couldn’t give in. The two things that I learned in public relations that will always be stuck with me is to never give up and never give in, my motto from now on.
